Viewing or listening to a multimedia document can be

exclusive ( or synchronous ), that is viewing or listening to the document is a distinct task.

simultaneous ( or asynchronous ), that is viewing or listening to the document takes places concurrently to other on-going tasks.

Besides, the player can be set to allow one or several viewings/hearings.
